TVHS Bus Tour to New Kent County

TVHS’ trip to New Kent scheduled for
Wednesday, June 7
 
On Wednesday, June 7th, TVHS will host a special trip to nearby New Kent County, whose history and illustrious names are an important part of the early history of Tidewater Virginia.
The trip will include a lecture outlining the stops on the trip, and their historical significance, by John Crump whose family roots go back to the formation of New Kent County in 1654.
The morning will include stops at St Peters Parish Church (site of the wedding of Martha and Daniel Custis. Martha (Custis) Washington attended services here), the White House Landing site-General McClellan’s main base for supplies, and the site of the White House, where Martha and Daniel Custis lived.
Lunch will be served at the Colonial Kitchen at the Courthouse.
After lunch visits will include the old jail and the New Kent Family and  Research Center, and the Chestnut Grove birthplace site of Martha Washington. (1731).  White House Landing, Martha Washington White House and Chestnut Grove are not open to the public.
