About The Event

Have you ever wondered what lies beneath the waters of Virginia’s rivers, Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic? Virginia has a rich maritime history which began long before the first English inhabitants landed on our shores. From harvesting the waters for food, keeping the remains of historic and everyday sites and structures now submerged underwater, and serving as the storyteller of many maritime battles...the waters in and around our state are the keepers of many secrets. Virginia’s Department of Historic Resources partners with federal, state, and private partners to preserve and protect this rich history ensuring that we—and future generations—can learn from and appreciate Virginia’s remarkable maritime past.
