October Lecture is Announced: The James River

William A. Fox

How much do you know about the history of the James River?

William A. Fox, author, will present intriguing facts on the James, share historic photos from his extensive collection, and describe unique places to visit along the James River.

The lecture is free and open to the public.

Author and retired naval architect, William A. Fox, was born in Newport News and has lived, worked, and recreated on or near the James River for most of his life. He is the author of The James River, Always Good Ships: Histories of Newport News Ships, Downtown Newport News, and many articles on local and maritime history.

Recently he completed a book for the Newport News Shipyard (NNS) Apprentice School’s 100th anniversary.  Additionally, William (Bill) has been involved in our local community while he worked on the completion of the ferry, Capt. John Smith, at the Deckhouse Museum in Surry and the restoration of a caboose in Norge.
